“Nothing says autumn like an apple achar. It’s seasonal, low cost and bursting with sweet and spicy flavours. I used cooking/baking apples but any sour and tart apple will work. I remember as a child, my mum would make achar in batches whenever we had an abundance of apples and then gift jars of it to relatives and friends. Achar adds a tangy flavour to any meal. It’s an excellent accompaniment to a paratha or simple rice and dhal.”
