This is a lovely wine to serve chilled with cookies in the afternoon or as a dessert wine after dinner.

  • 5 large oranges
  • 1 large lemon
  • 5 quarts white wine, preferably dry, or red

Wash the oranges and the lemon and grate their skins onto a plate. Quarter the fruits into a demijohn or preserve jars or any other large glass containers. Add the grated rind, wine, sugar, brandy, vanilla bean, and the piece of orange rind. Close the top and let it rest for forty days.

Pass through a sieve and pour into bottles. Seal tightly and keep in a cool place. Serve chilled.
