The Qissa Khawani Bazaar in Peshawar was immortalized by Kipling as the Street of the Story-tellers. It is on the old Grand Trunk Road from the Khyber Pass into the city and was traditionally not only a market, but a refreshment stop for people, where they could buy food and drink and also listen to the dramatic stories of the professional story-tellers.
