Sugar-Roast Turnips

Ingredients

  • 450 g/ 1 lb small white turnips, peeled and into neat batons
  • about 7.5 cm / 3 inches by 2 cm / ¾ inch
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tsp caster sugar
  • salt and pepper

Method

Preheat the oven to 220°C/425°F/ gas 7.

Brush the turnip batons with olive oil, sprinkle with the sugar, season with salt and pepper and roast for 45 minutes, turning after 15 minutes and again 15 minutes after that.
