These elements go so well together! I tried a version of this dessert that mixed the bacon directly into the crumble, but the result wasn’t as delicious as when the caramelised bacon is scattered over at the last minute. It is much tastier and more succulent that way. If you don’t have an ovenproof cast-iron frying pan, pre-cook the apples in an ordinary frying pan, then make the crumble in a baking dish.
