When the middle of the month hit and bank balances were low, we knew it was time for cabbage. There are numerous names for this leafy vegetable in the township, a lot of them biblical in nature due to the belief that when times are tough, a big round cabbage will always be there to help you out.
Cabbage and potatoes is one of those staples that you can never get away from as a black South African. This is my twist on it.
