This is the unadorned old school recipe scribbled in a million kitchen notebooks across the land. It’s also the original energy bar, easily wrapped in greaseproof (or a hanky in the old days) and stuffed in a pocket. Simple, comforting, tasty and always standing by.

Ingredients

  • 125 g butter
  • 85 g soft brown sugar
  • 85

Method

Preheat the oven to 180°C/160°C fan and line a 20 x 20cm baking tin with greaseproof paper.

In a medium pan, melt the butter with the sugar and the golden syrup, stirring from time to time.

Add the oats and salt, and stir well, until all the oats are coat
