The Severn lampreys were caught as far upstream as Worcester, and also at Gloucester and Berkeley. Gloucester was famous for lamprey pies (in which part of their dues to the Crown were paid) and Worcester for potted lampreys. This recipe is given mainly for interest although it is still possible to ask Severn fishermen for lampreys and to get a few of these fish, which were once passionately sought after and are now completely out of favour.
