Method

Use a little to grease a large casserole.

Arrange half in the buttered dish.

Arrange half on top of the potatoes.

Arrange on top of the onions, then cover with the remaining onion then the remaining potato. Season the layers with pepper and a very little salt. Drizzle over a little liquid or oil from the cans if liked. Put pieces of the remaining butter on top.
