  • 250 g (8 oz) poppy seeds

Method

Soak the poppy seeds in boiling water; rinse well, then place in fresh boiling water and allow to stand for 15 minutes. Drain off the water and dry the poppy seeds thoroughly in a towel. Crush the seeds well in a mortar, then add the sugar and honey or jam. Continue crushing the mixture together until a uniform consistency is obtained for filling the vareniki.
