Method

Mix the sugar with the egg yolks and sour cream and add to the flour gradually. Prepare the apple purée by grating half the apples and cutting the other half into small cubes. Add the ground spice; combine the two mixtures; beat the egg whites and add to the mixture. Spoon into a well-greased baking pan and bake in a low oven (150°C, 300 °F, gas mark 2) for about 1 hour.
