  • 2 lb. cooking apples
  • 2 lb. onions
  • 2 lb. ripe tomatoes
  • ½ oz. mixed pickling spice
  • 8 oz. sultanas
  • 1 pint vinegar
  • 1 lb. black treacle
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 3 oz. mustard seeds or
  • 1 oz. dry mustard

Method

Peel and core the apples and chop. Peel and chop the onions. Skin and chop the tomatoes. Tie the pickling spice in a muslin bag. Put all the ingredients into a pan and simmer for 2¼—2½ hours or until thick. Remove the pickling spice, pour into hot sterilized jars and seal.
