  • ¾ lb. sugar
  • 1 pint water


Wash the tomatoes and cut four small slits near the bottom of each without breaking them. Squeeze out as many of the seeds as possible. Make a thick syrup by boiling the sugar with the water, stirring until the sugar has dissolved. When the syrup has thickened, add the tomatoes carefully and boil for about 3 minutes.
