Nadèje was our neighbour in France when I was a child. She was about my mother’s age and used to look after us when we came home from school. Nadèje is from Tunisia and always had jars of Harissa in her fridge, so whenever I taste it I think of her. Harissa is delicious with bread and butter, on a ham sandwich, with boiled vegetables, on fish or meat, with anything.
