Kwarezimal

A traditional Maltese pastry, these biscuits are, as the name suggests, made during Lent, using no eggs and no butter. Orange flower water is a traditional ingredient in many Maltese cakes and pastries, for in the eighteenth century Maltese oranges and orange flower water were famed throughout Europe, and were often sent as gifts from the Knights of Malta.
