Love cake

Sri Lanka also has the custom of sharing the wedding cake, in this case the charmingly named love cake. Although not a rich fruit cake, its spices, honey and sugar preserve it well enough to send a piece home with all the guests. From the number of eggs required for the traditional recipe, a dozen in some recipes, 7 or 10 in others, it is without doubt a remnant of the Portuguese presence in Ceylon. The original Portuguese recipe would have contained ground almonds, which are replaced today
