This is the French home-made version of Melton-Mowbray fruits made with pure fruit and sugar with no colouring or flavouring added. It is indispensable as one of the thirteen desserts (representing Jesus and the twelve apostles) that are eaten in France at Christmas. Naturally you make them well before Christmas and store them in a cool dry place in airtight tins.
