  • For the sweet and sour figs
  • 250ml (8fl oz) red wine vinegar


To make the sweet and sour figs, put all the ingredients for them, except the figs, into a saucepan. Bring them up to boiling point, reduce the heat and bubble for 5 minutes. Next, add the figs and simmer for 15 minutes. (You can use bottled figs, in which case you just need to cook them for 5 minutes.) Remove from the heat and let the figs sit in this syrup overnight, covered with a lid, or cl
