  • 6 medium pears — choose ones that aren’t too ripe
  • 500ml (16fl oz) dry red wine


Leave the stems on the pears and keep them whole. Now peel them.

Put all the remaining ingredients into a medium saucepan and heat gently to dissolve the sugar and honey. Pop the pears into the pan and simmer very gently with the lid on, spooning the liquid over the pears from time to time until they are tender — about 15 minutes.
