In Mexico these are wrapped in papel de China, the brightly colored tissue paper that we call “Chinese.” I use salted butter because I think they need a little salt; add a pinch of salt if your butter is unsalted.

Method

Preheat the oven to 375°F.

Cream the butter until very light, either by hand or with an electric mixer. Add the 2 tablespoons sugar and vanilla and beat for 1 or 2 minutes more. Gra
