Syrup cakes are great because although they have a fairly dense texture they are always very moist. This cake has a lovely sweet-sour nature. You can serve it with cream; however, I like it with finely diced fresh fruit. There are two things you must make sure you do right here: don’t make the syrup too sweet; and, very importantly, pour the hot syrup over the cake while it is also hot.

I cooked this on Valentine's day for my husband and made it into a lovely heart shape. It tasted divine.
Yes, It was appreciated thanks.
That sounds like a very sweet Valentine's surprise 💕
Gave this a try after it was recommended via #ckbkclub. It’s similar to an orange and polenta cake and even more similar to a traditional English lemon drizzle, though without the crunch of polenta in one or sugar in the other. Very moist and a good lime flavour though. Everyone liked it!
