This was always a favorite at the original French Laundry. It’s simple and delicious. The hot cream sauce, cream cooked with sugar, can be used with a variety of other desserts.

  • 6 tablespoons (3 ounces) unsalted butter, at room temperature, plus butter for the baking pan

Preheat the oven to 350°F. Butter a 9-inch round cake pan.
