Don’t let the word gravy scare you off—it’s just what many Italian-American families call tomato sauce. As in many Italian families, pasta with “Sunday gravy” was a fixture in my home when I was growing up. My mother would put on a big pot of rich sauce early in the morning and let it simmer slowly until dinnertime.
