Need an interesting way to serve green beans? I like these for family-style suppers, when you’re passing around great platters of food.

Trim and french (slice thinly on an angle) the beans. Bring a pot of water to a boil, add salt, and blanch the beans, uncovered, until just tender, about 4 to 5 minutes. Drain and rinse to cool (or shock them in ice water). (Alternatively, you can use 2 cups (500 mL) thawed frozen frenched beans.) Set aside in a large bowl.
