Mushy peas are not traditionally made with fresh or frozen peas, but rather with dried marrowfat peas. There’s not always time to boil dried peas for a simple side so here’s an option with frozen peas that will still sit nicely alongside your fish and chips.
Heat the butter in a frying pan (skillet). Once sizzling, add the frozen peas, season and cook for 2–3 minutes or until they are fully defrosted and cooked through. Pour in the cream and cook until steaming.
Tip the peas into a food processor or blender, or use a handheld stick (immersion) blender, and pulse until mostly smooth with some chunks of peas. Season to taste with salt, pepper
