A big chair and a small, icy cocktail: That’s luxury, and one reason I keep coming back to the bar at the Zetter Townhouse Clerkenwell. I really like their tiny, cold, cold, cold martinis with a generous share of vermouth in the gin. My version here has some olive juice tipped in and several olives—try picholines.

Ingredients

  • 8 to 10 green olives (I like picholines)
  • 5 ounces (150 ml) London Dry–style gin

Method

Fill two stemmed cocktail glasses with ice while you prepare the cocktails.

Load as many olives as can fit onto two cocktail picks. In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine the gin, olive juice, and dry vermouth. Stir for a while, say a minute, until the spirits are frigid.
