This American classic—often paired with a cup of tomato soup—can be as simple as cheese and bread or elevated with fillings that make it as appealing to Mom and Dad as it is to the kids. How ever you choose to build the sandwiches, enjoy them while they are hot and the cheese is gooey.

Ingredients

4 slices Sandwich Bread
1 tablespoon butter, room temperature

Method

Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Spread one side of each piece of bread with butter and place butter-side down in the heated pan. Place 1 piece of cheese on each piece of bread and heat until the cheese is melted and the underside of the bread is golden brown.
Place any of the optional fillings on 2 of the slices of bread, then top with another slice
