Bread and soup were made for each other, particularly when the bread is crusty and freshly made. Soda bread doesn’t need yeast or lengthy proving, and it’s child’s-play to make. Eat it hot from the oven, cut into chunks with plenty of butter.

Method

  • Preheat the oven to Gas Mark 6/200°C/400°F. Mix the flours, salt and bicarbonate together in a mixing bowl. Rub in the butter with your fingertips, lifting the mixture high above the bowl to get air into the dough. Continue until it resembles fine breadcrumbs. Usin
