This is a similar recipe given by Mrs. Brewitt of the Priory (Anne of Cleves House), Melton Mowbray, 1927. It is curious both these should come from Leicestershire and nowhere else, but I think the original in which there is no doubt claret was the principal ingredient may have been taken by Sir Charles Sedley or one of his friends from Pontack’s Restaurant to his country house at Wymondham on the borders of Rutland, Leicestershire and Lincolnshire.
