- vinegar 2 quarts
- Slice the tomatoes into a dish and sprinkle each layer with salt.
- Let them remain all night.
- Next day put in a preserving pan the vinegar, sugar, onions (sliced), pepper and spices.
- Drain the tomatoes from the salt and add them.
- Also the apples pared, cored and sliced.
