Another Yorkshire recipe received from Ross-on-Wye, dated ninety to one hundred years ago.

Ingredients

  • Stale bread
  • milk
  • pepper
  • salt
  • sage
  • marjoram

Method

  1. Soak the bread in milk.
  2. Mash with a fork.
  3. Season with a little sage, marjoram, pepper, salt, grated nutmeg and chopped onion.
  4. Add a handful of flour or oatmeal, and mix well with one or more well beaten eggs.
  5. Spread about 1 inch thick in a greased baking tin.
  6. Bake in a hot oven till a nice brown.
