Ingredients

  • Old peas
  • butter a good bit
  • or a piece of beef or pork or bacon
  • pepper and salt if needed.

Method

  1. Steep some old green peas in water (all night if they are not good boilers; otherwise half an hour).
  2. Put them in a stewpan with just enough water to cover them and with a good bit of butter or a piece of beef, pork or bacon.
  3. Stew very gently till the peas are soft, or if meat be used, until it is tender.
