Miss Margaret C. Cook says that pears or apples or prunes are perfectly delicious baked all night in the still warm oven of a stove that has been heated all day by a coal fire. In the morning the oven would be cold.

Method

  1. Have a low earthenware pot or dish with a lid.
  2. Pare the fruit carefully, and halve, and put into the pot.
  3. Strew them with a little sugar according to taste.
  4. Add flavouring also according to taste and quantity.
  5. Pour over
