Ingredients: golden syrup or treacle, enough to mix it; lard ¼ lb.; baking powder 2 dessertspoons; Fine oatmeal 1 lb.; ground ginger 2 teaspoons; mixed spice 1 teaspoonful.

Rub the lard into the oatmeal.

Mix in the baking powder, spices and ginger.

Take the lid off a tin of syrup or treacle and warm tin till the treacle runs.

Mix it with the oatmeal into a stiff mixture.

Put into a greased dripping tin and bake in the centre of a moderate oven.
