Another of the receipts of Mrs. Anger, of Burnham-on-Crouch, Miss Anstey’s grandmother.

Ingredients

  • Flour 2 lb.
  • treacle 2 lb.
  • butter

Method

  1. Mix the flour, sugar and ginger together.
  2. Melt the treacle and butter together, and
  3. Use to mix the flour.
  4. Dissolve the volatile salts in the milk.
  5. Mix that in.
  6. Pour into well-greased shallow tins.
  7. Bake slowly in moderate oven.
  8. When cooked and cold cut into squares.
