This is the same type of cake as those sold by E. W. Brown, and as will be noticed it differs considerably from Markham’s cake which seems to be more like the old Shropshire Simnel. There were of course any number of local variations of different cakes similar in type; those of E. H. Brown at Banbury are an instance of the survival of the fittest, and deserve the name of Banbury cakes.
