Ridin’ Dirty Shrimp ’n’ Grits

Shrimp and grits are another dish we have to thank the South for. Our ancestors would use the shrimp they caught while working for their slave owners and cook them alongside their rations of grits. Eventually this dish became a Southern staple, and it’s all over brunch menus down south, especially at some of our favorite Black-owned restaurants.

Just as Black folks have moved around the country, so too has our food. It’s pretty easy to find shrimp and grits on menus at American rest
