Boil the potatoes in their jackets until halfcooked. Allow to cool. Blanch the cabbage then drain and cool.
Peel and grate the potatoes. Mix three-quarters with the cabbage and season well.
In a pan heat the oil and gently cook the; onion until soft. Remove from the heat and add to the cabbage and potato mixture.
