Sheepshead are fairly large, flat, crafty fish with vertical stripes and tough mouths filled with sharp teeth. They live near dock pilings or submerged debris, where they find their food—barnacles and small shellfish, including fiddler crabs. We caught sheepshead in cool weather, when the water was clear, by dangling fiddler crabs on sharp hooks beside the dock pilings.
