We always had plenty of chores, whatever the season. Feeding and caring for our farm animals topped the list. They relied on us as much as we relied on them for our food.

Slopping the hogs and pigs was not our favorite work. The hog pen was near the woods, a distance from the house. Although it was hard work to carry the heavy buckets of food, we knew how to make it fun when our parents went out.
