Homemade applesauce forms the base of aeblekage, a Danish dessert that layers bread crumbs with fruit sauce and tops it all with whipped cream. I’ve dressed up this treat by baking oats and almonds with maple syrup, and serving it in parfait glasses.

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C). Butter a smallrimmed baking sheet.
  2. In a large bowl, stir together the oats and almonds. In a small heavy-bottomed saucepan over medium heat, cook the maple syrup, brown sugar, and butter, stirring constantly until the
