My grandfather didn’t do much cooking (how many men of his generation did?), but he dearly loved food and his eyes would glow with pleasure when he described the dishes he grew up on. He did have a small repertory of specialties, and when he decided to make one, it was a great thrill for his grandchildren. He excelled at making breakfast. (I suspect that this was the only time my grandmother would let him into the kitchen, so she’d have all day to clean up the mess.) One of his masterpieces
