A meal at my aunt Rosa Miller’s was always an adventure. Rosa was born in Salonika, Greece, of Italian parents, whose ancestors were exiled Jews from Spain. She and my uncle Sheldon, a hospital administrator for the navy, lived in countries as diverse as Iran, Brazil, and Ecuador.
