Pea & Ham Soup

There was a classic television advert for stock cubes in the 1980s, where Hughie tells his pal that it’s chicken soup for dinner as he and his wife had enjoyed roast chicken the night before. Unbeknownst to him, his wife had in fact used Knorr ham stock cubes.

When he is asked the next day how the soup was, he exclaimed, ‘The remarkable thing was it wisnae chicken, it was Pea and Ham.’ To which his pal uttered the now immortal words: ‘Pea and ham, fae a chicken? Now that’s clever!’<
