A simple cream cheese frosting blends perfectly with this rich, dense, slightly bitter cake to make it look like an irresistibly well-poured pint of black stout.

Ingredients

For the cake

  • 75 g dark chocolate
  • 100 g butter

Method

Preheat the oven to 180°C/350°F. Grease a 23cm cake tin.

Roughly chop the chocolate and butter and place in a saucepan over a low heat. Remove from the heat when melted and leave aside for 5 minutes before stirring in the stout.
