The Gaelic name for the village of Ecclefechan in Dumfries and Galloway is Eaglais Fhèichin, with eaglais being the Gaelic word for church. Named after the village, Ecclefechan tarts are made with buttery pastry and a sweet filling of dried fruit, walnuts and orange flavours. The tarts are baked until the pastry turns golden and the filling caramelises, creating a heavenly aroma that fills the kitchen – perfect as a treat after a visit to church!
