In Mary Beaton’s 1823 The Cook and Housekeeper’s Complete and Universal Dictionary in between describing evacuations and exercise was her recipe for Eve’s pudding. Traditionally made with apples, replacing them with pears means even less work in the kitchen, as the pears will cook in the base of the pudding without any extra preparation.
