Spiced Red Grape Sauce

  • red seedless grapes
  • 1 mcintosh apple
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cider vinegar
  • grated rind and juice of ½ lemon
  • ¼ teaspoon cloves
  • ¼ teaspoon allspice

  1. Wash and cut in half enough grapes to measure 2 cups, packed. Try to buy them as sweet as possible. Wash, peel, core, and cut up the apple. Chop both fruits together in a blender or food processor until quite finely chopped but leave some texture. Pour into a saucepan.
  2. Add the sugar, cider vinegar, grated lemon rind, lemon juice, cloves, and allspice. Stir well and bring to a boil, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Then, lower the heat and simmer until quite thick or about 210°F. This will take about 1 to 1½ hours depending on the amount of juice in the grapes. Seal in sterile jars.
