Wash and cut in half enough grapes to measure 2cups, packed. Try to buy them as sweet as possible. Wash, peel, core, and cut up the apple. Chop both fruits together in a blender or food processor until quite finely chopped but leave some texture. Pour into a saucepan.
Add the sugar, cider vinegar, grated lemon rind, lemon juice, cloves, and allspice. Stir well and bring to a boil, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Then, lower the heat and simmer until quite thick or about 210°F. This will take about 1 to 1½ hours depending on the amount of juice in the grapes. Seal in sterile jars.
