This is a nice addition to a snack table.


Prepare the vegetables in any amount, using just one type or a mixture, of the following:

  • carrots, cut into long, slim sticks
  • celery, cut into long, thin sticks
  • cauliflower, broken into florets
  • small, slender salad onion


  1. Pack the veggies into whatever size jar you wish, trimming to fit. Do not overpack. The jars should be clean and hot to avoid breaking when the syrup is added.
  2. Combine the vinegar, water, sugar, mustard seed, and salt (add hot sauce or chilies now if using) and simmer, covered, for 10 minutes. The syrup may steep overnight for added flavor. Reheat for the next
