Follow the directions for Pickled Matchsticks using these ingredients for the syrup and vegetables.


For the syrup

  • ¾ cup cider vinegar
  • ¾ cup water
  • 1 teaspoo


  1. Make a syrup using the vinegar, water, chilies, peppercorns, garlic, cloves, and ginger.
  2. Prepare an assortment of matchstick-cut vegetables to loosely measure about 4 cups. A selection to start with is ½ volume of cucumber, ½ volume of carrots, onion, or sweet peppers
